Did Michael Phelps Really Win That 7th Gold,

Your site, and your reasoning, are brilliant. Sad but true, the 'dumbing down' is well underway, and the rationale of 'it's true because TV said so' is something very commonplace, at least here in Canada it is. I've never seen so much urgent convincing of people to believe a predetermined truth as in the aftermath of this race. I posted on the cbc.ca site, something to the effect that "Cavic couldn't stop the live-from-Beijing, media-forged creation of a myth", and naturally got attacked. The race made me question my vision and sanity.... Your site is factual, your claims well-argued and amply supported, and it shows me that I'm not the only crazy one in all of this.

I like where your coming from with this. Not many people out there are willing to question sports and the forces that really control them. My biggest argument against your proposition is the world wide angle of it all. I could very easily see NBC creating an artificial result for guilible Americans to swallow, but considering this is/was getting world wide converage, I have a hard time believing that every other network (and photographer) in the world would remain silent. Even the other swimmer and his home country haven't raised much of a stink (that I know of). If you can explain that aspect to me, you've won me over because I thought (like everyone else watching) that he lost.

A lot of people keep saying that the angles of the photos were bad and that the types of lenses used were wide angle thus skewing the pictures. Well, these angles and types of lenses were also used to decide that Phelps won. Is his win skewd? In my opinion Cavic won. I think it's obvious.

The sensor to stop the clock is not the black cross in the middle of the lane on the wall. the sensor is actually the entire wall. the sensor pad covers the whole wall from about 2-3 inches just inside the lane markers. you can touch anywhere on the wall. not just the black cross in the middle, and you can do it above or below water as well. you can see in the picture on your site that both his hands are touching the wall. which is all they have to do. The cross is there to give swimmers a visual cue in the water when heading down their lanes near the finish or at the turns.

being an ex-professional sportsman myself i witnessed "the thing" number of times - when someone needs to win for sure, and $$$ are involved, everything else will be "fixed" to support that ... 100% being a computer programmer now i can only expect (and imagine) in couple of days to see Omega publish something that will provide and "electronic" proof - computers can do everything you forget one last thing ... bets and sports gambling you should ask how many people had placed their bets in favour or against Phelps i'm sure that big money is involved also

Phelps won it, your pictures show terrible angles where it appears that Cavic touched the wall while Phelps was still reaching for it, when in reality neither of them had touched the wall yet. The angle of the camera looking down on the pool is going to be very deceptive because when youre looking into water at an angle, even slight as it is, it skews the image making it appear that an object underwater is in a different place than it really is. This is exactly the reason why it appears that Cavic is touching the wall while Phelps' hands are out of the water. At the time that Phelps actually touches the wall both hands touch at the same time in accordance with the FINA rules that you were kind enough to point out. The photos that you show from under the swimmers are also taken at such an angle that you cant clearly see the daylight that exits between Cavic's fingers and the wall. Those photos were also taken with a wide angle lens which will skew the image even more in any case. If you actually look closely at this image: http://100thofasecond.com/cold-hard-facts/rules-dont-apply-to-phelps.jpg you can see that neither of them are touching the sensor with either hand. If you believe that that is a doctored image or that it was not from this race, look up the race video on nbc.com. Now Phelps might be a highly overpaid sponsor athlete, but that dosen't change the fact that Phelps one the race. I'm sorry to inform you that your hours of hard work to put this page together were all for naught, but you'll just have to find something else to complain about. I'll be waiting for you to write more about that Bolt fellow. Maybe you can convince me of some wrong doing on his part.

It is not uncommon in Olympic games that in such inconclusive circumstances, as in Cavic-Phelps race, gold medal is shared. But someone was too eager to see that only Phelps owns this gold an no other.

You obviously have not been watching the Olympics from beginning to end on every network possible. There are several different angles of the two touching the wall that you do not have posted. There is clearly about a half inch of light that you can see in between the wall and Cavic's hands. Shame on you for making this into a conspiracy. I believe in truth, I believe in good sportsmanship, and I believe in good people....and Michael Phelps overshadows you by miles. He is a phenomenal athlete, one of the greatest, and I'm sure that Cavic is too. You obviously didn't listen to Phelps's several interviews. He IS planning charity work actually.....but my god....he JUST FINISHED. What, do you want him to start his charity work tomorrow. Get a life....if you want to critisize someone, what about Usain Bolt from Jamaica from showboating after he won the 100? or the Russion Pole Vaulter that told everyone that she was the very greatest, and everyone should admire.

Phelps should have won only 5 gold medals, at most. The France Team was told to lose the 4x100m freestyle relay. Barnard swam the anchor leg for the France took a dive. The first three Francemen obliterated the American. Barnard had almost a full body length over Lezak and purposely slowed down to let the US win. Any professional or amateur sportman (land or water) knows with that advantage, one cannot lose unless an injury occur. In the next individual 100m freestyle, he destroyed Lezak by a full body length which he should have destroyed Lezak by two body length in the relay. Phelps was fourth behind in the final stroke of 200m IM behind the Japanese, Hungary and Brazil. He couldn't take advantage of his strongest butterfly, felt back during his weakest backstroke and behind further during the breaststroke. Not by magic but by seer power of corporate fund, the others felt back and Phelps took the gold with only his second strongest stroke, freestyle. http://100thofasecond.com/ no explanation required. I am an American. I am not anti-American. I love America. But in 2012, we should have corporate flags displayed during the Olympics medal ceremony. There is nothing wrong with hail to the corporate logos, as long as they do not disguise it as human triumph.

I was at my friend's house when Michael Phelps raced that race and immediately the people in the room were divided. I imagined there to be many households across the world that shared this same scenario, therefore I think it's wonderful that a website exists to shed some light on the other side to reflect the dissenting views that were prevalent the moment it happened. All the outrage and self-righteous judgment of your website simply serves to prove your point, that people are brainwashed by the media. Why do we need the media's permission to question the truth, why shouldn't there be open dialog about this? Even if you are wrong you still put forth your position in a logical and cohesive way that could make any sane, level-headed person say to themselves "they may not be right but I can see where why they are taking issue" But no, the rage and the degree to which the masses are taking this personally is the answer to why worldwide media/newspapers aren't going to write about this. It's the same reason the majority of newspapers didn't take an opposing view to the war in Iraq or why we don't have socialized healthcare. It wasn't until Michael Moore made his movie Sicko that we are now given permission to discuss universal healthcare. Cavic should have pursued this more, so part of this is his fault. Yes he would have been torn apart but if he chooses self-preservation over the truth, in the character defining moments that comes everyone's way, then he's helping to create the world in which we live which is one based on deception.
